제 목: ‘도여수 루츠 드레셔 복음선교연대(EMS) 선교협력동역자 애도서신’ 발표 보도 요청의 건

1. 한국기독교교회협의회(NCCK, 김종생, 이하 교회협)는 도여수 루츠 드레셔 (Lutz Drescher) 복음선교연대(EMS) 선교협력동역자의 소천 소식에 깊은 애도를 표하며 아래와 같이 서신을 발표하였습니다.

2. 도여수 선생은 1987-1994년 복음선교연대(이하 EMS) 선교협력동역자, 2001-2016 EMS 동아시아 국장 그리고 2017-2020년까지 독일동아시아선교회(DOAM) 명예 의장으로 활동하셨으며 한반도 화해와 평화 민주화를 위해 무엇보다 한국기독교장로회(기장) 영은교회(오용식 목사)에서 약 8년 간 사역하며 기독교도시빈민선교협의회와 더불어 가난한 이들과의 살아있는 국제연대를 온 몸으로 실천해 오셨습니다.

3. 우리는 도여수 선생의 소천 소식에 다시 한 번 깊은 애도를 표하며 그의 밑바닥 사람들을 향한 끊임없는 헌신과 애정을 기억합니다. 남과 북 주민들의 마음을 깊이 헤아려가며 한반도에 대한 희망과 꿈, 화해와 평화 공존의 국제적 연대의 길을 열어 오신 그의 순박하고도 아름다운 삶의 여정에 찬사를 보냅니다. 그가 이뤄온 정의와 평화 그리고 생명을 향한 실천적 에큐메니칼 유산들이 계속해서 이어져 갈 수 있기를 바랍니다.

4. 특별히 그의 생과 삶의 업적을 기리며 추모예배를 드리고자 합니다. 추모예배는 EMS 한국측 파트너쉽 관계인 대한예수교장로회(예장 통합)와 한국기독교장로회(기장) 그리고 교회협(NCCK)이 공동으로 주관하여 오는 2월 15일(목) 저녁 6시 한국기독교회관 2층 조에홀에서 드릴 예정이며, 보다 자세한 내용은 추후 다시 안내드리도록 하겠습니다.

도여수 루츠 드레셔(Lutz Drescher) 선생을 애도합니다.

한국기독교교회협의회는 복음선교연대(EMS) 선교협력동역자(1987-1994) 전 동아시아 국장(2001-2016), 독일동아시아선교회(DOAM) 명예의장이신(2017-2020) 도여수 루츠 드레셔 선생의 소천에 깊은 애도를 표하며 당신과 여정을 함께 해 온 전 세계 에큐메니칼 공동체 동역자들과 더불어 슬픔과 위로를 나눕니다.

우리는 도여수 선생께서 보여주신 한반도 화해와 평화와 민주화를 향한 열정과 무엇보다 가난한 이들을 향한 살아있는 국제 연대의 표징으로 당신을 오래도록 기억할 것입니다. 1987년 군부독재의 서슬퍼런 칼날이 민중의 삶과 정신을 지배하려던 시절, 노원구 하계동 영은교회가 위치한 작은 마을에서 매일 아침 주민들과 하루 이틀 유통기한이 지난 우유를 함께 마시며 ‘꿈을 먹고 사는 사람들’의 가난한 삶을 이해하고자 했던 당신의 곱고 순박한 마음을 우리는 결코 잊지 못할 것입니다.

1989년 베를린 장벽이 무너지는 것을 지켜본 그는 늘 예상치 못한 방법으로 한반도 평화와 화해의 길이 다가올 것이라 굳게 믿고 있었습니다. 루츠 선생은 1995년 독일로 돌아간 이후 2001년부터 복음선교연대(EMS) 동아시아 협력국장으로 약 15년 여간 일하며 세계 에큐메니칼 공동체와 함께 네 차례나 되는 방북을 조직해왔고, 2006년 ‘한반도 평화와 통일∙개발협력을 위한 에큐메니칼 포럼’(Ecumenical Forum for Peace and Reunification and Development, 이하 EFK)이 공식 출범하는데 결정적인 기여를 하였습니다.

무엇보다 전쟁 트라우마로 고통당하고 있는 남과 북 주민들의 마음을 깊이 헤아려가며 한반도에 대한 희망과 꿈, 화해와 평화 공존의 국제적 연대의 길을 열고자 헌신해 오셨습니다. EFK 포럼은 세계교회협의회(WCC)와 본 회를 주축으로 ‘한반도 평화를 위해 일하는 국제 네트워크’로서 현재까지도 전 세계의 주요한 국제 파트너들과 함께 계속해서 맡은 바 사명을 이어가고 있습니다.

‘바닥에서 일하시는 하나님’을 온 몸으로 고백하며 가난하고 억눌린 이들과의 연대가 곧 세상을 바꾸는 일이라는 믿음으로, 또한 억압에 저항하며 자유를 위해 행동하는 곳, 인간의 존엄과 인권을 위해 투쟁하는 곳에 바로 하나님께서 계시다는 굳은 믿음으로, 그는 고난당하는 이들과 더불어 울고 웃으며 지난 40여 년간의 세월을 한국의 친구들과 함께해 오셨습니다. 한반도를 향한 당신의 맑고 고운 마음 그리고 순박한 삶의 여정은 우리 모두에게 오랜 시간 기억될 것입니다.

한국을 사랑한 도여수 선생님! 당신의 사랑에 힘입어 우리도 늘 깨어 한반도 평화와 화해를 향한 새로운 꿈을 꾸겠습니다. 지금 이 순간에도 당신이 그립습니다. 우리 남과 북의 한반도 에큐메니칼 식구들 모두 당신을 몹시도 사랑합니다. 참 고맙습니다.

본 회는 한국교회 에큐메니칼 전통과 역사 속에서 함께 순례의 길을 걷는 모든 신앙의 벗들과 다시 한 번 도여수 선생의 삶을 깊이 기리며 애도의 마음을 전합니다. 당신이 하나님의 품에서 영원한 안식을 누리시기를 두 손 모아 간절히 기도합니다.

Condolence Letter for Lutz Drescher (Do, Yeo-su),
a mission worker from Evangelical Mission in Solidarity(EMS)

We mourn the passing of Mr. Lutz Drescher

(Do, Yeo-su), who served as a mission worker

For Evangelical Mission in Solidarity(EMS)

The National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK) expresses our deep condolences for Mr. Lutz Drescher, who served here as a mission worker (1987-1994) and as the former East Asia Director (2001-2016) for Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS), and as honorary chairman (2017-2020) of the German East Asia Missionary Association (DOAM), and we share our sorrow and comfort with the members of the ecumenical community around the world who have joined him on his journey.

We will long remember the passion Mr. Lutz Drescher showed for reconciliation, peace, and democratization on the Korean Peninsula, and his devotion toward living for the poor, as he became a symbol for international solidarity. We will never forget his kind and pure heart in 1987, at a time when the razor-sharp blade of the military dictatorship tried to dominate the lives and minds of the Minjung (the people), when he tried to understand the lives of the poor, the “people living on dreams,” by drinking one or two-day expired milk every morning with residents of a small village in Nowon-gu at Hagye-Dong Youngeun Church.

After watching the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, he always believed that the path to peace and reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula would come in an unexpected way. After returning to Germany in 1995, he worked for about 15 years as the head of the East Asia desk at EMS since 2001 and while there organized four visits to North Korea along with the global ecumenical community, and made a decisive contribution to the official launch of the the "Ecumenical Forum for Peace, Reunification and Development Cooperation on the Korean Peninsula" (EFK) in 2006.

Above all, he sought to deeply understand the hearts of the South Koreans and North Koreans suffering from war trauma, their hopes and dreams, and devoting himself to reconciliation and peace, he helped to open the way for international solidarity toward a peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula. The EFK led by the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the NCCK has become a significant "international network for peace on the Korean Peninsula" among the global church and continues its mission with major international partners around the world to this day.

Confessing a "God who works from the ground up" with his whole body, he has been at the site of suffering, at the place where they act for freedom against oppression, and at the place where they fight for human dignity and human rights along with his Korean friends for the past 40 years, crying and laughing with us, maintaining a firm belief that solidarity with the poor and oppressed is a matter of changing the world. Lutz Drescher, your journey for the Korean Peninsula, your innocent life with a clear and kind heart, will be remembered for a long time by all of us.

Do, Yeo-su who loved Korea! Thanks to your love, we will always wake up and dream a new dream for peace and reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula. We miss you even at this moment. We, all the members of the Ecumenical family in the South and the North of the Korean Peninsula, love you dearly. Thank you very much.

The NCCK deeply honors the life of Lutz Drescher, and we express our condolences to friends of all faiths who walk the path of pilgrimage together in the tradition and history of the ecumenical community of the Korean Church. We bring our hands together in prayer that he will enjoy eternal rest in God's arms.
