Rev. Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit General Secretary
World Council of Churches Nov. 27. 2010
Dear Rev. Olav Fykse Tveit
Warm greetings from the NCCK.
I, as the newly elected General Secretary of the NCCK, would like to express my sincere appreciation to the solidarity that the WCC has continuously shown to us concerning peace and security in the Korean peninsula.
On the occasion of the Yeonpyeong Island incident, we are very much worried about political moves toward bigger clashes and war-oriented environment. However your concerns and prayer become a great support to our effort struggling against political games of fostering military antagonism between two Koreas.
It is a little bit late for issuing the NCCK statement because of getting clear information and of collecting and mediating different ideas. I understand some of partners already got this statement before you through the Ecumenical Forum for Korea. There were a lot of requests to send the NCCK’s position on this incident from our ecumenical partners, so that the Ecumenical Forum for Korea immediately circulated this statement before I send it to you. I believe you understand the situation.
Once again I appreciate you for promptly issuing the solidarity letter on the Yeonpyeong Island incident which was sent to all WCC member churches. Please keep us in your prayers until peace and security in the Korean peninsula is eventually achieved.
In ecumenical solidarity.
